On-site Massage FAQs

What’s your cancellation / refund policy?
No refunds will be provided for deposits or cancellations received less than 24 hours before a scheduled appointment. Cancellations received between 72 and 48 hours before a scheduled appointment are eligible for a 75% refund, and cancellations received less than 48 hours before a scheduled appointment are eligible for a 50% refund.

What is a chair massage?
A brief, stress-reducing massage given to high tension areas of the neck, back, shoulders, arms and hands to customers seated in a comfortable supportive and portable chair. It lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, uses no oil and applied directly through clothing. The massage is given by a massage therapist who is professionally trained in effective safe seated massage techniques.

How much space is needed?
Only a small 6’x6’ area is needed for a therapist to set up the massage chair and have enough room to move around comfortably. A small office or conference room will allow for more privacy.

Do I remove my clothing?
NO. During a chair massage, you remain fully clothed, though you may be asked to remove a jacket or obstructive jewelry.

Do they use oils during the massage?

No oils are used in chair massages. Sometimes a light and absorbent lotion is applied during hand massages; however let the therapist know if you prefer no lotion.

What is your hygiene policy for your massage therapists?
Before each massage section a massage therapist washes their hands, and cleans and disinfects the massage chair and face-rest and applies a fresh face rest-cover.

What if I want more or less pressure?
Our massage therapists are trained to adapt to a wide variety of body types and sensitivities to pressure. Let the therapist know your preference for pressure.

What can I expect in a 15 minute massage?
During the 15-minute session, the therapist will focus on relieving muscle tension in your neck, shoulders, and back. If you’d like your arms and hands massaged too, please let the massage therapist know, but keep in mind that will leave less time for the other areas.

Can I have the therapist work on just one area?

At the beginning of the massage the therapist will ask if you have any specific concerns. If you’d like the massage therapist to focus on one specific area, just ask the therapist.

Will I be tired / sleepy afterwards?
Not at all, it’s easy to mistake a sense of relaxation for fatigue. In fact, research shows that chair massage recipients are more alert and focused afterward a massage.

Are gratuities or tips expected?

Gratuities are not expected or necessary, but of course they are an excellent way to let the massage therapist know they’ve done an amazing job. If you do choose to tip however, the average rate is 10-20%.

I’m pregnant. Can I still get a chair massage?
Yes, massage can be very beneficial for women during pregnancy. However, be sure to let the massage therapist know you are pregnant in so they can assure your safety and comfort.

Are there contraindications for chair massage?

Yes, medical contraindications include but are not limited to: uncontrolled hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, fractures, herniated discs, malignancy, numbness or tingling in any part of the body, especially the hands and feet. Please inform your therapist of any acute or ongoing health conditions before the chair massage.

How many massage therapists will I need for my event?
The ideal number of therapists needed for your event will be determined by various factors including expected traffic, available space and your budget. Contact us to help determine the best strategy for your event.

Who are your massage therapists?
Jolly Therapeutic Massage works with only the best independent massage providers in the New England area trained and experienced in chair massage. We carefully screen, interview and check references for all massage therapists.

How long should the massage session be?
For conventions, trade-shows and events, we recommend starting at 10 minutes per chair massage sessions and adjusting according to the traffic. For corporate massages, 15-20 minutes is generally preferable.

How far in advance should we schedule with you?
This depends on the size and location of the event. For smaller events with one or two therapists, a minimal advance booking is required. However, for larger events, we appreciate a minimum of two weeks’ notice.

Can you provide an attendant for the event?
For larger events, a booth attendant or greeter can be included in your quote, just let us know what your needs are and we’ll be sure to accommodate you.

What are your hours of operation?

Our massage office hours are 9am through 6pm. Our on-site services are scheduled between 8am through 7pm. However, we are able to schedule events outside of these times frames.

What do your massage therapists supply?
You provide the space and we do the rest. Our therapists supply massage chairs, disposable face cradle covers, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, music and more. You may supply the therapist with shirts with your company logo for a promotional event.
